Learning Objectives

This course aims to increase competence and improve clinical practice in primary care by enhancing skills and strategies to:

• Implement new guidelines in office-based preventive medicine, including cancer prevention, screening, immunizations, and prevention of coronary heart disease and stroke
• Manage common and complex conditions such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, asthma, COPD, TIAs, stroke, diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, and sexually transmitted infections
• Incorporate evidence-based approaches to treating COVID-19 and related primary care concerns
• Diagnose and manage common women’s health issues, including contraception, abnormal uterine bleeding, breast and endometrial cancers, pelvic pain, and vaginitis
• Treat dermatologic conditions such as skin cancer, eczema, acne, hair loss, chronic urticaria, drug eruptions, skin infections, and aging skin disorders
• Understand and treat common and complex pulmonary disorders
• Integrate knowledge of immunotherapy and emerging medications into clinical care
• Manage patients with immunocompromising conditions effectively
• Apply evidence regarding vitamin and nutritional supplements
• Address obesity and utilize new pharmacologic treatments
• Implement new exercise guidelines in clinical practice
• Optimize diagnostic testing and enhance clinical value
• Apply best evidence to improve patient communication and shared decision-making
• Advance equitable, patient-centered care with awareness of health disparities
