Content

This course consists of four detailed modules that cover the anatomy, scanning techniques, and pathology recognition of the shoulder girdle using musculoskeletal ultrasound.

  • Module 1: Ventral Shoulder
Learn the sonoanatomy and scanning methods for structures including the long and short heads of the biceps, pectoralis major and minor, subscapularis, rotator interval, coracohumeral ligament, coracoid process, and associated bursae. Pathologies covered include tendinopathy, tenosynovitis, various tendon tears, tendon dislocation, muscle and musculotendinous junction injuries, effusion, bursitis, impingement, ligamentous tears, instability, calcification, and frozen shoulder.
  • Module 2: SASD Bursa & Supraspinatus
Focus on the subacromial/subdeltoid bursa, supraspinatus tendon and muscle, infraspinatus tendon, rotator interval, rotator cable, anterior cylindrical bundle, and acromiohumeral distance. Pathology recognition includes tendinopathy, rotator cuff tears (partial, full thickness, massive), rotator cuff impingement, muscle injuries, fatty infiltration, bursitis, and postoperative cuff evaluation.
  • Module 3: Superior, Dorsal and Inferior Shoulder
Explore sonoanatomy and scanning of the acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints, clavicle, infraspinatus and teres minor tendons and muscles, axilla and axillary recess, latissimus dorsi, teres major, and more. Pathologies covered include tendinopathy, rotator cuff tears, impingement, calcification, muscle injuries, fatty infiltration, muscle atrophy, ganglion, neovascularization, osteoarthritis, geyser sign, traumatic instability, and fractures.
  • Module 4: Glenohumeral Joint, Nerves, and Scapulothoracic Joint
Comprehensive coverage of the glenohumeral joint from multiple approaches, glenohumeral labrum, brachial plexus, supraclavicular, suprascapular and axillary nerves, quadrilateral space, supraspinous and spinoglenoid notches, serratus anterior, trapezius, rhomboid, and levator scapula muscles. Key pathologies include osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder, instability, dislocation, subluxation, joint effusion, synovitis, fractures, labral pathology, nerve entrapment and injuries, muscle atrophy, and impairment.

What You’ll Learn

  • Standardized scanning techniques for the shoulder girdle
  • Three-dimensional functional sonoanatomy of the shoulder structures
  • Recognition of musculoskeletal ultrasound pathologies using SonoSkills methodology
  • Clinical examination principles of the shoulder
